Washington - Factory shipments of major appliances rose 3.7 percent in December, to some 5.1 million units. The increase was likely spurred by last-minute buying, as dealers stocked up on inventory in advance of a new round of manufacturer price hikes that went into effect Jan. Read more

(Reuters) - Jon Rubinstein, who was instrumental in crafting Apple Inc's iPod music player, has left Hewlett Packard Co after two years on the job there. Rubinstein was CEO of smartphone maker Palm when that company was acquired by HP in 2010. Read more

Average prices of HDTV units slid to new lows during this year's holiday season, with the average price of 46" LCD TVs falling below $1,000 and 32" TVs falling below $500, both for the first time. For Christmas this year, I was finally able to shed the cash to pick up an Xbox 360 along with a Kinect. While I do enjoy playing the games, what I’m most enthralled by is using the Kinect when watching TV. Read more
